Root Canal
Stopping the pain!
The Causes
If you are experiencing a sensitivity or pain in your mouth while chewing, there’s a good chance there is a cavity or an infection. When your tooth is cracked or has a significant amount of decay, bacteria is able to enter the pulp (or root) and destroy it leading to serious infection and eventually tooth loss.
Root Canal Procedure
A root canal is a routine procedure that is designed to relieve pain and preserve the integrity of your tooth. Before the procedure, Dr. Varner will use local anesthetic to gently numb your tooth. Next, Dr. Varner will carefully remove the infected area inside the pulp canal, clean, and disinfect it. A material is then placed to seal the canal and a restoration is inserted to cover the opening on top of your tooth.
In most cases, a crown restoration will be needed after root canal completion to give strength back to the treated tooth.
Some teeth can have very complicated root systems. In these cases, Dr. Varner will refer you to a trusted endodontist (specialist) for completion prior to crown placement.
